Sophie, Goldie and I have been hard at work since I alluded to the idea that we were going to try to dress Pepper in jūnihitoe, like a traditional hina doll. It has been a learning experience for all of us and I, for one, have ideas for how we can do this again even better. But meanwhile, for this year, Hina Matsuri is upon us and our efforts will suffice for now! Here are some photos of the process of donning layers and layers (and more layers) of clothes:
Above you see Pepper in the red garment called an andon bakama (not divided like hakama - that will come next time) and the first layer of uchigi, in green. To the left another four layers of uchigi are on, one over the other and Sophie is holding the karaginu ready.
Best wishes to all little girls (of whatever age!) R.
