Lily here. Those of you with sharp eyes are saying "how can this be Claudia's Ann Estelle when this is obviously a party at Joe Pye Towers??"
R came to me in a dither and said she needed to celebrate Claudia's Ann Estelle's birthday but how could she without Claudia's Ann Estelle?? "Could you do something magic?"
"Hey, Ann Estelle, come in here for a minute, would you?"
"Make a wish and blow out the candles!!!!"
Yes, today is Ann Estelle's birthday at Claudia's house!! Claudia recently discovered that today is the REAL Ann Estelle's birthday - Mary Engelbreit's grandmother.
Everyone had a very good time. (And don't they all look pretty and handsome?!) Happy birthday Ann Estelle!!!! R.
Piece of cake!! And didn't even need magic. Just got out my grannie's pocket watch and hypnotized the local Ann Estelle into believing she is the Claudia Ann Estelle. Then I did all the others so that's who they'd think she was too. I mean, these dolls - they are always kind of glassy eyed, aren't they?! Don't tell anyone but I had a lot of fun and made Andreas think he is Christopher Robin and Christopher Robin think he is Andreas. And I mixed the girls all up too. Easy peasy to convince Sophie that she is the Duchess of Cambridge! They're going to get a shock when I say the code word that brings them all "awake" again, hee hee hee.
And the best part was R told me I could eat all the cake I wanted if I did this "magic" for her! MINE .... all MINE!!!!!!! Lily.
My new Patsy friends could hardly wait to get out of their boxes when we got home. They hated playing that 'I'm Just A Doll' pretend game that happens when they travel from Uncle Robert to their new homes.
Here are some quick photo introductions. We'll have a party with them soon, I promise.
But I'm just having too much fun learning how to take care of Autumn to think about that yet. Maybe Sophie will act as Party Planner since she is so good at things like that. It may have to wait until my real birthday.
I haven't even invited Georgia over to meet Autumn. And you know she and I are BFF.
But there is something extra special about Autumn. I want to take my time figuring out why she has this kind of glow about her. And I think we need to spend time being sisters the two of us together for a bit.
I'm exhausted and as happy as I've ever been though!
your cousin and now a big sister
Dear Annie Laurie,
Finally, the Big Banquet! I felt a little hesitant about meeting someone as famous and as beautiful as Evangeline. But it turned out that she likes little girls so that was ok after all. Here's me pretending to be famous and beautiful just like her.
You'll never guess what I'm sitting on. Each of us got a hat box with a pair of fancy shoes in it for dress up. They will look FANTASTIC with this special ME outfit I'm wearing or when we play princess or witch.
In addition to feeling shy and kinda little, I really didn't want to leave Autumn behind. She is too little to be on her own! Grammie C said that Autumn could nap in her purse, but I knew that being in the dark jumbled in with things would have been very scary to me when I was that age. We couldnt agree on a good solution, so we carried her down to the banquet hall arguing all the way. And you know...that NEVER happens with Grammie C.
As soon as we saw our favor, I knew just what to do though....so the shoes went in Grammie C's bag, and I tucked Autumn up in the wee hat box where she could listen but still be close to me. She fell right off to sleep even before the banquet started. Aren't I a smarty?
Dear Annie Laurie,
Now I know why Grammie C was so excited. She thinks that Nikki must have been a lot like me when she was little! Nikki has been making art and dolls since she was our age. Can you imagine? And she has a bit of magic to her. She makes little fauns and elves and fairies and the like. I just wish she lived closer to us!
Here is my picture with her in the background. I know I look like I'm concentrating on the magic ice cream cone she enchanted so that I could bring it home to you. It looks like strawberry and smells like chocolate. Isn't that neat?
I was a little embarrassed to just stare at her. And my heart was going pitter-patter; pitter-patter, to just be so close. The program has a picture of her in it and I'm going to cut it out and put it in a frame for my bedroom.
We ate our ice cream and saw pictures of some of the wonderful creatures she makes. Then it was about time to go....BUT....YOU'LL...NEVER...GUESS...WHAT..HAPPENED...NEXT!!! It is almost too exciting to tell. Think about the very best birthday present I could ever get! It's something I've been asking for over and over for the longest time. And thanks to Mommy and Daddy and Nikki's magic....
Here's my baby sister, Autumn Wood!! Isn't she perfect? You can't see it, but I have tears of joy in my eyes. I never understood what people meant by that before. But it really does happen!
Got to go. I just want to hug her and hold her tight.
Dear Annie Laurie
FINALLY, it wasn't raining and we weren't at an event OR shopping! I needed a break because I was pretty disappointed that we didn't win your Boneka outfit in the Helper's Raffle. But we are bringing home lots of other beautiful Boneka outfits to share. We did get some outfits for Uncle Rufus and for Jacey's doll. And lots of things for the flower shop and garden in Wilde Cove.
I told you that I wanted to send you a picture from the park that I knew you and the other Fireflies would love. How handsome is this dog? I rode him around for a while and pretended that I was in Egypt because he reminded me of the Anubis we read about at school. I know that's not what the artist had in mind. But it was what I had in mind. I had trouble going back inside, but Grammie made me rush a bit. She seemed pretty excited about the Ice Cream Social we were going to with Nikki Britt.
We've already had lots more desserts that we eat at home. But I guess this social thing is still seeming like a party to her.
Meet my new friend, Willem Creedy. Wouldn't he be the perfect big brother? He was so kind to me. He told me I could sit at his desk and read his animated Mother Goose book if I wanted to. What a kind boy. Berdine showed us some movies of her girls dancing and visiting with jungle animals. I especially liked the ones of Willem's sister. Willem was named for Berdine's father and his sister is named after Berdine's mother. How neat is that. We had some good conversations about how we got our names. He laughed out loud when he heard that I was named after MY other grandmother.
Then we had a quiz game, 'Are You Smarter Than A First Grader'. I didn't get picked to represent my table but I knew every single answer. It was hard not to shout them out but we had to let the team that was picked find their own answers. Grammie C was proud of how smart I was.
Dear Annie Laurie,
I didn't pack my watercolors or pencils since my trunk was SO full. Shucks. Since Grammie C isn't an artist like me, she didn't think to tell me that part of this birthday celebration was the chance to sit down and talk and listen to a whole bunch of wonderful artists. One day we relaxed in a small group of Grammie's friends and visited with Connie Lowe. Ms Connie makes the most incredible art. You'd love her imagination. Connie had brought her sketchbook full of ideas that seem to hover around her all the time. I loved being able to look at her drawings.
Then we spent a good deal of time with Nikki Britt who whispered that she had a most special surprise waiting for me. I hope I get it soon!
This morning we met at a breakfast called 'A Snowy Day' with Maggie Iacono. She showed us how she makes her own patterned felt for her outfits. I've never thought about being a fiber artist but she made it look so straightforward that I bet I could do it. Her husband shared that she does some of the splattery work in their kitchen sink and that his job is to clean it up. Think if I promise Mommy not to leave a mess that she'd let me try this out?
I tried to get a good picture with Maggie's new little boy and sled. But he was feeling kind of shy with all the attention he was getting so I'm not sure how well you will be able to see him. Fortunately one of Grammie's new friends sat with us so I played with her little girl who was also feeling a bit overwhelmed. This was her first meal event, but now I'm feeling so at home that I just held her hand and told her to relax and enjoy herself.
We had such a rush after breakfast. So many raffle tickets to label. We just barely made it in time to get them in the raffles we had decided to bid on. You know Grammie. She has her other grandchildren to think about. So we put some tickets in a bag for clothes for Jacey's 7th birthday doll. And we bid a LOT of tickets on some outfits for Uncle Rufus.
Some tickets went for clothes for Ellowyne and the biggest bunch of all went into a raffle for a cute new outfit for you! It is by Boneka and you would LOVE it!
Keep your fingers crossed. I hope you win!!!!
hugs and kisses
Annie Laurie replies: For ME??!!!! This is so much fun! I love getting your reports "from the front" and I'll keep digging R. in the ribs so that she posts them for you double quick - she's down in the dumps right now and needs cheering up. XOXO Annie Laurie
Dear Annie Laurie,
I never got dressed until after lunch. Just couldn't help falling asleep and taking a long nap. Grammie and I were all set to explore the park just across the street. I can see some things there I think you will like, but I'm keeping them a secret until I can check them out.
But when I woke up it was pouring rain. We stuck our hands out to see if we could brave the storm. But even with my new umbrella it was just raining too hard. So I played with the umbrella inside for a while instead.
