Here's a golden oldie from 2010. This bunny head was made by Custom House to fit on their Petite Ai bodies.
I apologize that there are problems with a somewhat random selection of the website images not enlarging when you left click on them the way that they should. I'm working (although that isn't quite the correct verb!) with Weebly to correct the problem, hoping that I don't have to go back and re-load all the non-functioning images! In fact, I don't have the originals of some of the ones that are "broken" so there would be no "fixing" them. Sigh.
I didn't realize that the "search" box had disappeared from the blog ...... should be back, functional now! Isn't it funny how web "things" wander away, leaving their tails behind them??!! R.
Some of you were curious about the source for Ann Estelle's books last year. I have good news!! Laura's Little Loot is back up and running! You can find her on Facebook.
https://www.facebook.com/lauraslittleloot.miniatures (If link doesn't work, try searching for Laura Fencil.) One of you was interested in "Miss Happiness and Miss Flower" - you might ask Laura if she still has the scans that I sent her that she used for my book. R.
I've been consumed with knitting a sweater ..... a very small sweater ..... that is taking sooooo much time!!!! I'm using a pattern developed for the Effner 13" Little Darlings - I had hopes that their torsos would not be that much different than the 10" bodies and that I could squeak on through without modifying the pattern. Nope.
That theory fell by the wayside once I put in the shoulder seams - the body of the sweater was too long for the 10"ers. So I started over with a different yarn, making the length from the base of the cross-over collar to the shoulder seam shorter (since I didn't want to break into the obvious double diamond pattern in the center front). Hopefully this will still allow for the very attractive collar... Starting over has also allowed me to abandon the out-of-control mistakes I made in the four areas of cables!!!
So far I've managed to keep all four cables under control and parallel to each other!! I made a couple of mistakes in the double diamonds, but not as badly as I did on the first try. The BIG news is that I have actually successfully corrected several mistakes as I've gone along!!! Why this is big news is because previous to this I've been abysmal at taking out stitches and getting them back on the needles again, so correcting mistakes was almost impossible for me!!! I've even been backing out of sequences within a cable cross-over!!! Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!!!!!! R.
Preparations for Valentine's Day are ongoing here a Joe Pye Towers .....
Sophie has been making paper hearts out of origami paper. (And wants you to see her new Boneka jacket. I bought it on eBay as a single piece and shortened the sleeves to fit my gang - it must have been for another doll with longer arms but a similar size torso? Perhaps part of an outfit or dressed doll?)
Of course, many romantic thoughts are inspired by young Andreas ... what a hunk, eh?
But hunk or not, Andreas himself is no slouch in the romance department, and like many others today, he has come to the mail box to mail his valentines. He volunteered to baby sit cousin Matilda, but upon closer inspection ......
one begins to wonder if he was using that just as an excuse to load up the baby carriage with a BULK of valentines!! I told you he is no slouch in the ways of romance!!!
With the aid of a high-powered paparazzi camera lens, we can spy on who is sending whom Valentines!!! Shame on me!!!
Well, SOME people are writing to their senators and congressmen - it's not all hearts and flowers, you know!!!!
Best wishes for a romantic St. Valentine's Day!!! R.
Between the time that it took me to be inspired by the marches on January 21, get out my knitting needles to make pussy hats for some of my gang and today, I began to question whether posting a photo like the one that follows trivializes the things that are now happening to my country. These things are certainly NOT trivial!! They are frightening and discouraging. I decided to go ahead and finish three hats and post one photo. But I cannot bring myself to "play" with this theme. There is a horrible chill in the air.
I am happy to share the "instructions" for these very simple knit hats if anyone is interested. R.
Thanks for the words of support. Claudia asked for the knitting "pattern" so here goes ....
First off, I've never learned to knit small things, like socks, "in the round" (Those THREE needles!! Without ends!! Yikes!!) but if you do know how to knit socks, doing these in the round would do away with the need for a back seam and would make a much nicer hat!
What you are aiming for (doing it my way = making a flat rectangle) for a doll like Ann Estelle (left above, ca 7.25" head) or Darlene (right above, ca 7" head) is a rectangle that is 8.25"-8.5" long and 3.25" wide. These measurements depend on your yarn weight. The following instructions are for #3 weight yarn (the two solid pink hats use this - from LyonBrand "BonBons" collections.) Lighter weight yarn ("sock yarn") is better, but #3 was what I had on hand in pink, so that's what I used.
Caste on 56 stitches on #2 needles. Knit the rest on #3 needles.
Knit 4 rows of knit/purl/knit/purl ribbing.
Row 5 = knit all the way across
Row 6 = purl all the way across.
repeat 5 and 6 until you have 26 rows total. Bind off.
Sew the two ends together. Then flatten the resulting cylinder, with the back seam falling half way across, and sew the top edges together, from side to side.
I used #4 weight yarn for the middle hat on Sudha, who has a smaller head (ca 6.5"). I made a rectangle about 6.75" long by 2.75" wide by casting on 52 stitches to start with and knitting 22 rows total.
My, what a sophisticated and complicated "pattern" that was, eh??!!! Enjoy. R.
Ann Estelle and Sophie have come to visit Great great great aunt Azalea on Christmas eve, bringing a specially chosen gift for her .....
Azalea loves to see the kids!
"Should I open it now?" "Yes yes yes!!!!"
Wonderful warm fuzzy slippers!!!!
"Thank you my dears - these are just what I needed. Come here you two sweethearts and give me a big hug!"
Merry Christmas to all and please let the heavens watch over us in 2017!!! R.
"This is only a test". "In the event of a REAL post, you would be instructed to have a Merry Christmas!!" R.
